What if you'd been living your life as if you were dying--only to find out that you had your whole future ahead of you?
When sixteen-year-old Alice is diagnosed with leukemia, her prognosis is grim. To maximize the time she does have, she vows to spend her final months righting wrongs--however she sees fit. She convinces her friend Harvey, whom she knows has always had feelings for her, to help her with a crazy bucket list that's as much about revenge (humiliating her ex-boyfriend and getting back at her arch nemesis) as it is about hope (doing something unexpectedly kind for a stranger and reliving some childhood memories). But just when Alice's scores are settled, she goes into remission.
Now Alice is forced to face the consequences of all that she's said and done, as well as her true feelings for Harvey. But has she done irreparable damage to the people around her, and to the one person who matters most? (Summary from Goodreads)

Oh dear! As great of a beginning as this story might have--a bucket list filled with good and bad--it appears the lesson comes later in the story as the main character must live with the choices she makes, the bridges she burns, and the people she affects. I'm in!

(Heart of Dread, Book 1)
Author: Melissa de la Cruz
Release Date: September 17, 2014
Published by: Putnam Juvenile

Welcome to New Vegas, a city once covered in bling, now blanketed in ice. Like much of the destroyed planet, the place knows only one temperature--freezing. But some things never change. The diamond in the ice desert is still a 24-hour hedonistic playground and nothing keeps the crowds away from the casino floors, never mind the rumors about sinister sorcery in its shadows.
At the heart of this city is Natasha Kestal, a young blackjack dealer looking for a way out. Like many, she's heard of a mythical land simply called "the Blue." They say it's a paradise , where the sun still shines and the waters are turquoise. More importantly, it's a place where Nat won't be persecuted, even if her darkest secret comes to light.
But passage to the Blue is treacherous, if not impossible, and her only shot is to bet on a ragtag crew of mercenaries led by a cocky runner named Ryan Wesson to take her there. Danger and deceit await on every corner, even as Nat and Wes find themselves inexorably drawn to each other. But can true love survive the lies? Fiery hearts collide in this fantastic tale of the evil men do and the awesome power within power us all. (Summary from Goodreads)

Ok, THIS sounds amazing! I have been both a combination of horrified AND fascinated with the idea of a distant, or possibly not too terribly distant future that's falling apart or broken in some way because of what we've done to our planet and the fact that it freaks out because of what we've done to it...example = watch one of my favorite movies, The Day After Tomorrow! WHOA!!! This book sounds like a perfect example of this! I'm VERY IN!

What are you waiting on this week?
