A young, jewish girl who loves animals and plants, a young man filled with anger who thinks the Ku Klux Klan is the answer to everything, a middle-aged couple who are struggling with their store, a single woman who runs her own farm, a newspaper owner, and more form the disfunctional town in Vermont where Leanora Sutter lives with her father. Will the Klan tear the town apart? Will the ones they are after leave to avoid the violence they promise?
