Waiting on Wednesday #27 - The Treachery of Beautiful Things and The Spindler's

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. Be sure to post a link to your Waiting on Wednesday below!

This week's pre-publication "We can't wait to read it!" selections are...

 Author: Ruth Frances Long
Release Date: August 16, 2012
Published by: Dial Books

A darkly compelling mix of romance, fairy tale, and suspense from a new voice in teen fiction.
The trees swallowed her brother whole, and Jenny was there to see it. Now seventeen, she revisits the woods where Tom was taken, resolving to say good-bye at last. Instead, she's lured into the trees, where she finds strange and dangerous creatures who seem to consider her the threat. Among them is Jack, mercurial and magnetic, with secrets of his own. Determined to find her brother, with or without Jack's help, Jenny struggles to navigate a faerie world where stunning beauty masks some of the most treacherous evils, and she's faced with a choice between salvation or sacrifice--and not just her own.

I always like to try out the new fairy tale inspired books. Sometimes I love them and sometimes I don't, but this one certainly sounds interesting with a devilish forest and an adventuring girl out to find the truth!

 Author: Lauren Oliver
Release Date: October 2, 2012
Published by: HarperCollines

Looking across the breakfast table one morning, twelve year-old Liza feels dread wash over her. Although her younger brother, Patrick, appears the same, Liza knows that he is actually quite different. She is certain that the spindlers-evil, spider-like beings-came during the night and stole his soul. And Liza is also certain that she is the only one who can rescue him.
Armed with little more than her wits and a huge talking rat for a guide, Liza descends into the dark and ominous underground to save Patrick's soul. Her quest is far from easy, and the road to the spindler's nests is riddled with danger. She must brave tree snakes, the Court of Stones, and shape-shifting serpents before facing her greatest challenge in the spindlers' lair, where more than just Patrick's soul is at stake. (Summary from Goodreads)

I'm always in when it's Lauren Oliver, but this MG fantasy novel sounds delightfully dark and adventurous. AND, that cover is wonderful! I can't wait to get it in at our middle school LMC and on my own shelves. :)

What are you waiting on this week?
