TBR Thursday...

Today I worked on adding new JLG (Junior Library Guild) books that arrived into the high school library system. A box of new publications arrives each month and it's always a bit dangerous for my TBR list to work on these since they are usually amazing and I end up adding a bunch to my TBR list. Today I added 2 and thought I'd share them with you in case you wanted to add them too!

Author: Karen M. McManus
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Release date: December 1, 2020
Genre: Thriller/Mystery

Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they've never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they're surprised... and curious.

Their parents are all clear on one point—not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother's good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it's immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious—and dark—their family's past is.

The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn't over—and this summer, the cousins will learn everything. (Summary from Goodreads.com)
I added this one to my TBR list because it sounds thrilling and the mystery sounds incredible. What is the grandmother up to? Why did she disown her children years ago? There are so many questions to be answered! I instantly thought, "This would be a great movie!"

The Shadow War

Author: Lindsay Smith
Publisher: Philomel Books
Release date: February 23, 2021
Genre: Holocaust/Historical/War/Fantasy/LGBTQ+

World War II is raging, and five teens are looking to make a mark. Daniel and Rebeka seek revenge against the Nazis who slaughtered their family; Simone is determined to fight back against the oppressors who ruined her life and corrupted her girlfriend; Phillip aims to prove that he's better than his worst mistakes; and Liam is searching for a way to control the portal to the shadow world he's uncovered, and the monsters that live within it--before the Nazi regime can do the same. When the five meet, and begrudgingly team up, in the forests of Germany, none of them knows what their future might hold.

As they race against time, war, and enemies from both this world and another, Liam, Daniel, Rebeka, Phillip, and Simone know that all they can count on is their own determination and will to survive. With their world turned upside down, and the shadow realm looming ominously large--and threateningly close--the course of history and the very fate of humanity rest in their hands. Still, the most important question remains: Will they be able to save it? (Summary from Goodreads.com)

DOESN'T THAT SOUND AMAZING!? Crazy, but amazing. I love it when someone takes our history and twists it in some way to tell a story. This is right up my alley and a readalike to the duology Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Gruadin. It would also be a good read for people who like the Captain America stories which I have never thought of until now. I'm sure that's why it appeals to me since I love that story.

What have you added to your TBR lately?
