Princesses Azalea, Bramble, Clover, Delphinium, Evening Primrose, Flora, Goldenrod, Hollyhock, Ivy, Jessamine, Kale, and tiny baby Lily are in mourning. They must where nothing but black, the windows must be drawn closed with dark fabric at all times, all the clocks must be stopped, they must not recieve any guests and most importantly and hardest of all they must not dance for a full year. Dancing is their favorite thing. Dancing makes them feel. Dancing makes them proud. Dancing is when they feel the closest to their mother. How will they live for an entire year without dancing?

When the sisters stumble upon a magic passage way leading to a magic pavilion with music that plays just for them to dance to how could they possibly resist? This way they get to dance without anyone seeing. Only the Keeper is watching. But who is the Keeper? Why has he been trapped in the pavilion?

What are the sisters willing to do to keep their dancing a secret? What is the Keeper willing to do to keep them dancing every night? What is the King willing to do to undo their secrets before their secrets undo them all?

The 12 Dancing Princesses! Truly one of my most favorite Grimm's Fairytales that my daughters ask me to read regularly! This one is just as lovely and full of both the mystery and the dancing that the classic version has. Dark though this gets at times, it still never pushes itself out of its classic story. The sisters are absolutely delightful and watching their relationship with their father as they try to deal with their extreme grief is very well written by Dixon. I can't wait to see if there will be more along these lines from Dixon. What did you think of this one?
