Caitlin's best friend Ingrid has taken her own life a few weeks before the end of the last school-year and now Caitlin is all alone. As she tries to learn to breath again and her parents watch her closely, she keeps herself hidden within herself. After finding Ingrid's journal stashed under Caitlin's bed she reads a bit at a time and gets to see a clearer picture inside Ingrid's head than she ever let anyone else see. Gradually Caitlin makes new friends and begins to live her life again with their help. This was a wonderful book about the loss, regret and guilt that we all feel after someone close to us makes the ultimate decision to end their own life and what that does to the people around them who loved them. Nina LaCour got it just right. Not too raw, but just raw enough to feel real. To feel the ache that exists in Caitlin's core at the loss of her other half. Plus there's the added bonus of the illustrations throughout the novel which make the story all the more real. I might even sit down and read this one again!
