Review: The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Naturals

Release date: November 5, 2013

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cassie is one of the most observant people...she's a Natural at reading people. She can tell you details about your life, and what you want, or will do next just after a look at them. Of course, it's just something that her mother always pushed her to do when they were making their mark back in the day...it certainly wasn't something she ever took seriously until the FBI came knocking. They want her to join their classified program of exceptional teenagers who crack cold cases with their Natural abilities. Except, pretty soon it becomes clear that they have become the hunted instead of the hunters when a serial killer starts closing in!

My thoughts: This was quite a different read then I normally have been reading and it was perfection in what I was hoping for. This was a great adventure full of twists and turns that had interesting new "abilities" I've never thought of before. Cassie, Michael, Dean, Lia and Sloane are fantastic characters richly told, or richly withheld depending on the one in question. The love triangle between Dean, Cassie and Michael is perfectly delicious. Sometimes I find love triangles perfectly hideous, but this time it works. Plus, just so you know I'm completely Team Dean! :)

Our main character of Cassie is a formidable force who has had to find her way through life since her mother was brutally murdered. I loved that in this book there was more than just her on her own though...she had her ginormous family watching over her in the beginning, then her team of Naturals, and then the adults who watch over her team at the FBI Naturals house. It was wonderful to have lots of adults alone with the teens for once in a novel.

Final thoughts: It would be so cool if this was the start of a series for this team of Naturals. I would LOVE another book with these characters!
